Rum House
A Summary

Logline: A withdrawn, tormented young man recounts his strange, often sexual experiences with women as he struggles to come to terms with consequences from his past that led to his shameful isolation.

In an attempt to reconcile a past mistake, and with the help of his psycho-analyst, old soul romantic 30-something Sydney Carton recounts the failed connections in his life that led to his imminent isolation. Ever surrounded by a robust, cavalier sexual culture, soft-hearted Sydney finds himself overwhelmed by his inability to properly love and be loved, awe struck by the hearts of those who have come and gone from his life and emotionally paralyzed by the lack of any true compassion in a world run amok with hypocrisy, lust and short-sighted conquests. However, pursued by the one voice that still has a hold on his heart, Sydney comes to terms with his past and finds that he has the courage to step forward and try once more.
Set in modem day, Rum House clears the waters of a muddied societal issue by allowing a more simplified explanation to a complex situation. Providing for two emotional twists in its conclusion, the script highlights the hope for spiritual renewal and second chances. As one reviewer posted on Philadelphia's Screenplay Fest, "In a nutshell: great characters, repenting gracefully."

Based on a true story, "Michael's screenplay 'Rum House' was 1 of 3 feature script winners of our.festival contest of over 1100 submissions. 'Rum House' was easily the best screenplay out of the three and perhaps one of the best written scripts we have ever performed al our festival event. Michael is definitely a writer 011 the rise and a true talent." -Matthew Tojfolo, Feshval Director, WILDSound Film Fest
