Hands On
A Summary
Logline: Paul Taylor, carpenter, part time musician and full time ladies man, is dealing with the recent departure of his wife and child when he finds he has been given the gift of healing. Hands On is the story of an ordinary man, blessed with an extraordinary gift and a new understanding of God, and his struggle to reunite his family as he works to understand what he is supposed to do and why he was chosen to deliver miracles in the modern era.
When Paul's wife figures out he's not working late but spending his time in the arms of yet another woman, she takes their young son and moves out, leaving Paul at the bottom of a whiskey bottle with nowhere to turn. On a drive to the liquor store, he witnesses a motorcycle accident and is bewildered when the victim is not only comforted but miraculously healed by Paul's touch. A failed attempt to secure more alcohol leads Paul inside a full gospel tent and into the waiting arms of Bishop Thomas, an elderly blind man who recognizes the significance of what has happened to Paul and steps up to mentor him . A series of healings and "word of knowledge" visions in quick succession convince Paul that God is real and has a plan for his future. "Hands On" follows Paul on his journey, examining his choices when confronted by friends, colleagues, the media, and members of the clergy.
What starts as a small tent revival quickly grows to a stadium sized healing ministry as word of Paul's gift spreads. With notoriety comes scrutiny, and Paul struggles to maintain a steady course to reclaim his wife's love and find his place as the spiritual head of his family. Soon, he is invited into the fold by the nation's top television healer but refuses to accept some church doctrine and conform to certain practices in the name of showmanship.
"Hands On" explores how an ordinary man might handle the pressures the gift of healing would bring; the many choices and temptations laid out like a mine field before him; and how a true healer, of God, might be received in today's social and religious climate. "Hands On" records the spiritual awakening and journey of an imperfect man sharing a divine gift with an imperfect people while under the scrutiny of a skeptical media and society at large.
Miracles happen every day in the modern era, and somewhere out there is a healer. What would you do if suddenly that person was you?
