Go, Cat, Go!: Rockabilly & the Birth of Rock 'N' Roll
A Summary
In the early 1950s, before there was Rock ‘N’ Roll, there was Rockabilly - a hybrid sound driven by the basic beats of rhythm and blues that grew out of the hilbilly side of what was then known as “Western” music. Go Cat Go! is an in-depth six hour exploration of the origin and development of Rockabilly music and its lasting impact on the creation of modern Rock ‘N’ Roll. The series will begin with the arrival of Elvis Presley at the Louisiana Hayride and chart his growth and influence on the folk music of the era as he wrestled with singing “The Devil’s Music”, and showcase all the great Rockabilly acts of the 50s and 60s and the influences of the blues and “race music” that all blended together into the phenomenon of Rock ‘N’ Roll.
