PurgaStory
A Summary
A Summary
Logline: Io this Christian-themed script. young Penelope, the endearing and ever curious Angel of Mercy, must help a dead rock star come to terms with his greatest sin before he is cast from Purgatory into the fiery depths of hell forever.
In this Christian based script, aging rock star "Rad" Randy Wilson finds himself subjected to a bnttal yet comical death after making a very public, though drnnken comment on the subject of homosexual marriage. The ensuing media firestonn puts Rad into the path of Hank, a sexuallyconfused hillbilly with a pension for overdoing things. Hank, in a misplaced fit of passion, shoots Rad, then himself and together the two find themselves stuck in Purgatory, awaiting their transport to the lower circles of Hell.
Now free of the weight of their human idiosyncrasies, the two realize, through this new post mortem perspective, the silliness of all the hatred, bickering and short-sightedness that souls suffer through while on Earth. The awareness of their own personal judgments and choices are bittersweet. The mere memory of all they thought was grand is suddenly trivial and pointless. These are the things a soul comes to know when removed from the human experience.
And so, the two are forced to sit it out a bit in Purgatory as the transports to Hell these days are rather backed up. As a way of occupying their time, Rad and Hank learn about their coming fate as they are put through some very concerning Orientation classes. Outside of this, they are allowed to visit the places from their lives through their own memories and take a peculiar joy in meeting the other damned as they, too, must assess the sins that have brought them to their judgment.
By a matter of some bureaucracy, Rad's "case manager" Oglethorpe, a firm but light-hearted British type, assigns Rad an "escort" during his brief stay in Purgatory. Penelope, a young and ever curious Angel of Mercy, is not to let Rad from her sight. During their brief time together, Rad bonds with the Angel and comes to love her in a way that he never knew be could love.
That dear Penelope is something very special is immediately obvious to Rad, as well as everyone in all of Purgatory, but the questions remain: Why is he the only among the damned assigned an "escort"? And why has she so many questions about his former love life, specifically about his great lost love, Laura? And what bas this inquisitive Angel to do with his greatest, most unforgivable sin, the sin that has gripped his soul with all the darkness and weight of all the depths of Hell?
PurgaStory is a tale of love and redemption even before the most dire of all circumstances. It tells the story of regret, of sin, of God's unyielding love and of one little Angel's blessed hope that a man can be forgiven and loved still, no matter how heinous the sin.
"PurgaStory" is a stellar fantasy script with drama and comedy in equal measure, a strong cast of characters and a plot that never lags. Even the smallest characters seem to have a vivid life all their own. Impressively, the script manages to switch between hilarious and heartbreaking at a moment's notice." - Wildsound Film Festival, Toronto.
